Who knew that two strangers who were married at a shopping mall would still stay married after 11 years? For David and Elizabeth Weinlick, they fell in love after they got married!David wanted to get married at the age of 28, on June 13, 1998. However, after a series of bad relationships , his friends decided to choose a bride for him. They made the announcement on a local TV station, wherein more than 300 women applied!
Elizabeth ran into David handing out "bride wanted" fliers and, after talking to him for less than five seconds, decided to apply. At 10 am, they faced the selection committee. By 3 pm, the 36 selected contenders were whittled down to three, which included Elizabeth. Then on final vote, she won and said her first hello to David at 4pm. At 5pm, she was dressed in white saying her vows to him at the shopping centre in Minneapolis, America.
After 11 years and four children later, the couple, now both 39, are still married - and madly in love! For the complete story of the couple, here is the link of the news article.
In some ways, the marriage of David and Elizabeth is like a modern day arranged marriage. This is a very interesting kind of "arranged marriage" because in some cultures and/or countries, the man and woman are not given any choice of who they want as their partner. Usually, it's their parents or perhaps, their cultural leader, who chose their spouse for them. In this case, it was David and Elizabeth's choice to participate in this publicity stunt and it just so happened that they fell in love.
So what can you say about this kind of "willful arranged marriage?" Is it fate or just plain crazy? Do you believe that marriages like this can last long? Do you know anyone who had an arranged marriage? Please do tell! We would love to hear from you!
